MJ Racadio 2025: A Seismic Year for Filipino-American Influence in Global Media
Ever wonder what it takes to truly make a mark? What if one year could encapsulate a lifetime of ambition, dedication, and groundbreaking achievements? For MJ Racadio, 2025 wasn’t just another spin around the sun; it was an explosion of Filipino-American representation that reverberated across journalism, music, film, and advocacy, reshaping the landscape of global media. Get ready, because this is a story that defies expectations and inspires us all.
Forged in Fire: Journalism on the Frontlines
You know, Hollywood often kicks off the new year with glitz and glamour, fireworks painting the starry L.A. sky. But for me, 2025 began not with a bang of celebration, but with the raw grit of a journalist facing adversity head-on. January brought one of Southern California’s most devastating disasters: the Los Angeles fires. These infernos tore through communities, from the serene Palisades to the rugged beauty of Altadena’s Eaton Canyon, leaving a trail of destruction.
On assignment for NET25, I found myself right there, amidst the chaos and courage, documenting the profound loss, the gripping fear, and the unyielding resilience of people who had lost everything. It was a sobering experience. I remember feeling a strange numbness after interviewing victims; it wasn’t until Sunday night, watching my playback, that the true weight of their stories hit me. Seeing how a community could unite through such tragedy was incredibly powerful, and it deeply reaffirmed my purpose. This wasn’t just about being a host; it was about being a journalist with a sacred responsibility to tell the stories that truly matter.
Global Horizons: From Travel to Cultural Spotlights
As the smoke cleared, the pace of my year shifted dramatically. By February, my show, BlogTalk with MJ Racadio, embraced the spirit of adventure, transforming into exciting travel specials. Picture this: one moment I’m exploring the vibrant streets of Seattle, the next I’m soaking in the breathtaking views of Vancouver! March became a whirlwind global sprint, a dazzling blur of international cities. We journeyed to the electric energy of Tokyo, the historic charm of Manila’s McKinley Hill, the futuristic cityscape of Singapore, the iconic shores of Sydney, and the dynamic pulse of Seoul. My mission? To bring captivating Filipino-American stories to a global audience, showing the world the richness of our culture and experiences.
Personal Milestones Amidst Professional Triumphs
Spring and summer brought a beautiful blend of personal joy and professional milestones. April marked a significant eleven-year journey for BlogTalk, celebrating “11 Years of Inspiring Stories.” Can you believe how far we’d come? Then, on May 10th, I embarked on the most wonderful adventure of all: I married the love of my life. June continued this incredible streak, starting with hosting the glamorous Los Angeles Kids Fashion Show on June 7th. Just a week later, on Father’s Day, June 15th, I experienced the unparalleled joy of becoming a father myself. And if that wasn’t enough, I proudly served as a media partner for the Filipino Hollywood Actors Panel on June 18th, organized by the brilliant minds at FilAm Creative. Talk about a busy month!
Elevating Voices: Advocacy and Representation in Hollywood
That Hollywood Actors Panel? It was more than just an event; it was a powerful statement. We showcased voices that are actively shaping global entertainment, from the incredible Eric Bauza, a three-time Emmy-winning voice actor whose characters light up screens worldwide, to the versatile Eugene Cordero, alongside the talented Abby Espiritu and Becca Q Co. The discussions were vibrant, insightful, and profoundly affirmed a truth we all know: representation isn’t just nice to have, it’s absolutely essential. When we see ourselves reflected on screen, it opens up a world of possibilities for everyone.
Breaking Barriers in Music: Charting New Territory
July brought a moment of pure breakthrough in my music career. My dance-pop single, “Never Be Like That,” masterfully produced by The Klubjumpers, defied expectations and entered the U.S. Top 40 radio! Imagine hearing your song played alongside powerhouses like Sabrina Carpenter, Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, and Justin Bieber. It was an exhilarating, surreal experience, and more importantly, a significant step forward for Filipino-American artists striving for recognition on mainstream airwaves. It showed that our voices, our beats, and our stories belong right there in the global spotlight.
A Multimedia Empire: Expanding BlogTalk’s Reach
From August through October, BlogTalk Hollywood wasn’t just active; it was surging with incredible content. I had the privilege of sitting down with some of the biggest names in the industry: Emmy winner Lisa Lew Brennan, Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer (yes, that Hans Zimmer!), “The Cleaning Lady” showrunner Miranda Kwok, and the phenomenal Grammy winner Septimius the Great. The show also achieved a historic milestone, proudly becoming the only Filipino podcast on U.S. Top 40 radio. And if that wasn’t enough, thanks to a new partnership with IGMP TV, BlogTalk expanded its reach to major streaming platforms like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV. We’re talking about taking Filipino-American narratives to living rooms across America and beyond!
Community Roots and Cultural Impact
Despite all the global expansion, the year remained firmly rooted in community and culture. I covered the vibrant FilAm Creative Film Festival in Los Angeles, shining a light on emerging Filipino filmmakers in New York, conducting captivating red carpet interviews at the TOFA event in Las Vegas, and proudly serving as a media partner for the 17th Philippine SME Business Expo at the World Trade Center. Advocacy remained a central pillar, highlighted by the selections for the 75 Most Influential Filipino-Americans 2025 and the prestigious BlogTalk Hall of Fame honors. It’s about recognizing excellence and inspiring the next generation.
From Pen to Print: A Legacy Documented
In October, a deeply personal project came to fruition: I launched my debut biography, Breaking Barriers: The Legacy of MJ Racadio — From Humble Beginnings to Global Influence. This book, now available through Barnes & Noble, is more than just a memoir; it’s a testament to my journey as a Filipino-American media trailblazer, documenting the struggles, triumphs, and the unwavering belief that our stories deserve to be told. I poured my heart into it, hoping it inspires anyone who dares to dream big.
Closing the Year: Global Recognition and Future Endeavors
November carried me right into the heart of awards season. I found myself attending screenings hosted by the esteemed American Cinematheque and the Asian World Film Festival, soaking in the best of cinematic artistry. Then it was off to Bangkok for BlogTalk’s seventh Miss Universe media coverage, an incredible experience. I even had the chance to appear on NET25’s Kada Umaga to weigh in on the buzzing Miss Universe controversy, bringing my unique perspective to the discussion.
December closed out the year at the absolute highest levels of global media. Imagine covering restored Filipino classics at The Academy Museum, reporting on the highly anticipated Golden Globe nominations, and then moderating Grammy nominee panels right in Hollywood! I tracked the 98th Oscars shortlists and reported on the exciting return of the Miss Universe Organization’s headquarters to New York. And to bring it all full circle, I participated in the final Grammy voting, blending my roles in journalism, music, film, and cultural advocacy into one impactful year. Truly, a capstone to an unforgettable journey.
